Sixers get Buddy Hield in trade with Pacers

The Philadelphia 76ers are working to improve their roster as star center Joel Embiid mends. Per multiple reports, the Sixers are trading for Pacers sharpshooter Buddy Hield and will send Marcus Morris, Furkan Korkmaz, and three second-round picks to Indiana in the trade.

Sixers get:

Pacers get:

  • Furkan Korkmaz
  • Marcus Morris
  • 2024 second-round pick (via Raptors)
  • 2029 second-round pick (via LA Clippers)
  • 2029 second-round pick (via Blazers)
  • Cash considerations

What trade means: Philadelphia has been in a swoon since losing Embiid to a left meniscus injury on Jan. 30. Overall, the Sixers have lost seven of their last eight games and will be without Embiid for at least the next four weeks as he recovers from surgery. This season, the 76ers are 4-12 without Embiid.

Hield will earn $19.2 million this season in the final year of a four-year contract. The Sixers are shooting just 31% from 3-point range this season and can only hope Hield provides not only a viable outside option down the stretch but can take some of the pressure off All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey, who has struggled in Embiid’s absence.

Adding Hield won’t fix any of the frontcourt issues Philadelphia faces while the center is out, but it will give the team an additional perimeter scorer and 3-point threat for the stretch run and playoffs. Hield ranks 15th in the NBA in 3-pointers made (137) despite seeing his minutes and role decline this season with the Pacers.

Hield’s resume: One of the best 3-point shooters throughout his career, Hield is averaging 12 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game for the Pacers. Last season, he played in 80 of 82 games, averaging 16.8 points, 5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.2 steals.

He made a franchise-record 288 3-pointers and shot 42.5% from 3-point range and ranked second in the NBA in 3-pointers made and ninth in 3-point percentage.
